Ages are a guide only, since children grow at different rates. Always measure the foot, and see how to measure shoe size for the method.

Toddler shoe sizes typically run from a US 4.5 up to a US 10, covering roughly 12 months to 4 years, though the age band is only a signpost. At this stage feet can grow half a size every two to three months, so frequent measuring beats buying to an age label.

First walkers need flexible, lightweight shoes with a little room to grow, about half a centimetre, but not so much that the foot slides. Once your toddler outgrows this range they move into the youth scale, covered on the wider kids shoe page.

Common questions

What size shoe does a 2 year old wear?

Most 2 year olds wear a US toddler 6 to 8, which is EU 22 to 25 and a foot length around 13.3 to 15 centimetres. Measure to be sure, as the range is wide at this age.

How often should I measure a toddler's feet?

Every two to three months. Toddler feet grow in bursts and a shoe that fit last season can become too small quickly.

Should toddler shoes have room to grow?

A little. Leave about half a centimetre at the toe. Too much room makes walking harder and can cause tripping.
