Glove sizing is driven by one measurement, the circumference of your hand around the palm at the knuckles, not counting the thumb. That figure in inches is effectively your numeric glove size, and letter sizes from extra small to double extra large map onto the same bands.
Most of Europe uses the same numeric hand measurement, so glove sizing travels better across borders than shoes or clothing. The chart below lets you go from a hand measurement to a US number, an EU number or a letter size in one step.
Glove size questions
How do I measure my hand for gloves?
Wrap a tape measure around the widest part of your palm, just below the knuckles and excluding the thumb. The measurement in inches is your glove size. For length, measure from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger.
Are glove sizes the same for men and women?
The numeric measurement is the same, but women's hands are usually smaller, so a women's medium and a men's small can share a size. Go by the hand circumference rather than the label.
What if I am between two glove sizes?
For a snug fit such as cycling or work gloves, size down. For warmth or layering, size up so the glove is not tight across the palm.
