The reverse conversion
Going the other way, EU 41 comes back to a foot length of about 25.8 cm, the same shoe with a different label on the box. See EU shoe size in cm for that direction in full.
Why the numbers differ
Every size on this page describes the same physical foot length, 25.8 cm. Europe measures in Paris points, where one size is two thirds of a centimetre, which is why EU numbers climb faster than UK and US numbers. The UK and the US both use the barleycorn system, a third of an inch per size, but they start counting from different points, and the US then splits again into separate men's and women's scales about 1.5 sizes apart. None of that changes the shoe, only the number printed inside it.
Because you are starting from a measurement rather than a size label, this is the most reliable direction to convert in. Measure the longer foot, standing, with the heel against a wall, and compare that number to the foot length column. Shoes are normally built with roughly half a centimetre of room beyond the foot, so if your measurement sits between two rows take the larger one. To measure properly, see how to measure shoe size. For every other size in this direction, see the full cm to EU shoe size chart.
Common questions
What shoe size is 26 cm in EU?
A 26 cm foot is closest to an EU 41, built for a 25.8 cm foot, and the next size up is an EU 42 at 26.2 cm.
Is 26 cm the foot length or the shoe length?
It is the foot length. Shoes are built longer than the foot they fit, usually by about half a centimetre to a centimetre, so a 26 cm foot goes into a shoe whose internal length is a little more than 26 cm. The chart on this page is anchored to foot length throughout.
Should I take EU 41 or EU 42?
EU 41 is built for a 25.8 cm foot and EU 42 for a 26.2 cm foot. A 26 cm foot sits between the two, so take the larger size for anything you walk or run in, and the smaller one only for a shoe you want snug, such as a dress shoe or a climbing shoe.
What is 26 cm in the other systems?
A 26 cm foot is UK 7.5, EU 41, a US men's 8 and a US women's 9.5.
What if I am between two sizes?
Size up. A shoe that is slightly long stays wearable with a thicker sock or an insole, while a shoe that is too short cannot be fixed. Foot length also increases through the day, so measure in the afternoon.
