Fitted caps do not adjust, so unlike a snapback or a strapback they have to match your head closely. The numeric size printed inside a fitted cap, such as 7 1/4, is the diameter of the opening in inches, which corresponds to a head circumference of about 58 centimetres. Measure your head and read across, and if you fall between two sizes, go up for comfort since fitted caps only give a little.
US and UK fitted numbers are close but round differently, so the UK number is usually one eighth smaller than the US number for the same head. To measure correctly, see how to measure hat size.
